PRISMS Awarded NIISP Support from the Ministry of ICTMukama Martin
Protecting Infants Remotely by SMS (PRISMS) empowers frontline health workers to save newborn lives by providing timely management suggestions. These suggestions are based on validated algorithms that use routine newborn assessment findings.
The project participated in the call for proposal under the National ICT Initiatives Support Program (NIISP); an initiative to support ICT related innovations in Uganda through the Ministry of ICT (MoICT). Out of over 300 applications that were submitted to NIISP, the innovation emerged among the top 40 selected innovations. It was invited to present to a panel of judges from the NIISP committee in December 2017.
In January 2018, the innovation team was called upon to present the innovation to the Ministry of Health (MoH) officials so that it fully assessed for the impact it would bring once adopted.
On the 12th April 2018, PRISMS was invited to the awards gala where the top 12 team to receive support from the MoICT under NIISP would be announced. Its on this day that the Permanent Secretary (PS) from the MoICT announced PRISMS among the innovations to be supported for the year 2018/2019. The PRISMS team hopes to have the innovation implemented in more and more facilities this year with this support.
The PRISMS team wishes to applaud the MoICT in Uganda for this great initiative.
